Where do I begin after I’ve decided I want to change my kitchen?
The first thing you do is decide what you want your kitchen to look like. Contacting Felena Kitchen and Bath will help you to focus on your needs as well as your wants. We will discuss all aspects of your kitchen, listen to your ideas, and come up with a plan for the room.
How should I gather ideas for my kitchen?
First, assess your needs. Do you cook a lot? Is there normally more than one person working in the kitchen at a time? Do you entertain? Is the kitchen a place where your family gathers? We also recommend collecting pictures from trade journals and magazines as a visual tool. Showing your designer ideas, colors, appliances or rooms that appeal to you is very helpful.
What should I expect to spend?
There is a broad range available for our clients. The cost depends on your choice of cabinetry, appliances and accessories. We recommend that homeowners set their budget at 5%-20% of the value of their home.
How long will our project take to complete?
Every situation is unique and depends on the scope of the work involved along with the cabinet manufacture chosen. There is no such thing as an average kitchen or bathroom.
Why do I need to develop a “do not exceed” number or a price range?
A good designer will use your price range as a design parameter. In this way, the designer will not exceed your budget. He will help you to decide which items might be eliminated from your plan or possibly adding an amenity or two—all within your budget criteria. Other things to consider would be the size of the room or the location of the windows and doors, as well as your aesthetic preferences.
Should I design with resale in mind?
It depends on how long you plan to live in the home. If you plan to live there less than five years, resale should be a consideration.
What if I want to replace my countertops and update the hardware?
While some homeowners do decide to only replace countertops, we always recommend doing a complete kitchen remodel. This is especially true for kitchens that are over 10-15 years old. The long-term return on investment is better, and the end result is better. Usually about the time countertops are wearing out, or are outdated, so are existing cabinets and appliances.
Do you work with people or contractors building new homes?
Absolutely. We always welcome contractors building new homes. We make sure that the homes our contractors have built measure up to our commitment to quality.
Do you give free estimates?
We give free estimates to those who have an existing plan. If you do not have a detailed kitchen plan, a designer can help you develop a budget.
Is there a design fee?
After the initial consultation, your designer creates a rough draft of your project floorplan along with an estimate. We do not charge for the consultation or estimate. Once the budget is established, we require a non-refundable 10% design fee. The design fee is then applied to the contract; it is not an additional charge.
Do you design bathrooms?
Yes. We also design and build libraries, bars, entertainment centers, theatres, custom architectural millwork and on occasion furniture.
What services do you offer?
Our designers will work with you to choose cabinets, countertops, tile for backsplash/floor, hardware, fittings/fixtures, lighting and appliances. We do not give you a list of vendors and then leave it up to you. In the past, it has proven mutually beneficial to everyone when we work together choosing the above products. This ensures that not only will your project finish on time and fit properly but it is everything you envisioned.
What is your design process?
Our design concept is a unique and all-inclusive process in which our own skilled professionals perform the necessary labor, ensuring our clients that the job is done on time, within budget and meet the quality standards of FKB. We can work with you and an architect to design and build a bump-out, addition, replace windows and doors or move walls in order to create the floorplan of your dreams for your kitchen, bathroom or other living spaces.
Our talented designers will meet with you either in your home, office or at our showroom. We prefer that the first appoinment be in your home. This gives us the opportunity to see how you live, take measurements and before photos, and discuss your style preferences. Then we will research your project and determine what is required for its successful completion.
I want to move a wall when I remodel. Can FKB help me with that?
Yes. We regularly do projects that involve structural, wall, window and door changes.
Do I have to find plumbers, electricians, tile mechanics etc.?
No. We provide subcontractors as part of the project, using qualified specialists to perform work in their respective fields. The people who we use are the same people who we use in our own homes.
Do I have to use your personnel to complete my project?
No, but we will strongly urge you to utilize our professionals. When we control scheduling of the appropriate tradesman, we can assure you of finishing the job not only in a timely manner but within the budget, and we can meet all of our quality standards plus there are no surprises. If you do not use our tradesman, we can not be held responsible for any scheduling issues or problems that may arise.
Does Felena Kitchen & Bath use sub-contractors or employees?
We use both. We use the same group of sub-contractors on all of our jobs. They are familiar with our expectations and we are familiar with the quality of their work.
Will Felena Kitchen & Bath provide design services only?
FKB will provide designs only for work that we intend to perform. Our recommendation is that to the benefit of the client, the person responsible for designing your kitchen or bath also be the person responsible for implementing the design. In this way we can ensure the integrity of the work.
I have an architect or interior designer that I am working with on my home. Will you work with them?
Yes. We regularly work with other design and industry professionals.
